Chemical & Petrochemical

Petrochemical analysis instruments are essential for laboratories and industries that need to characterize materials, oils, fuels, catalysts and chemical products with accuracy and repeatability. In the chemical and petrochemical sector, reliable analysis supports quality control, process monitoring and the detection of contaminants throughout the production chain.

The chemical industry is a relevant matter in everyday life. Most products come from chemical or petrochemical production processes, where analytical control is necessary to obtain essential information about composition, purity and material properties.

GNR provides a series of products and solutions for accurate and complete analysis in the chemical domain, supporting different operational needs.

In particular, GNR solutions can be used for:

  • quality control of raw materials and finished products
  • elemental analysis of chemical compounds, oils, fuels and catalysts
  • detection of contaminants and micro-traces in pure products
  • materials characterization of crystalline and non-crystalline samples
  • oil analysis for maintenance, wear and corrosion monitoring
  • compliance with reference methods and standards, including ASTM requirements

XRF and XRD are techniques more and more used in the petrochemical refinery chain, from the first step of exploration to crude oil production and then during the production of chemicals, oils, fuels and catalysts.

For instance, the elemental chemical composition of many compounds may be determined both by traditional X Ray fluorescence spectroscopy and by Total Reflection X-Ray Fluorescence (TXRF), where it is necessary to verify the presence of micro-traces of pollutants in pure products.

Moreover, determination of metal catalysts presence may be made through X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), while X Ray diffraction machine solutions can be used to determine important chemical-physical properties of materials.

GNR can offer the state of the art of XRD for phase analysis and crystal structure refinement, as well as TXRF instrumentation for trace element quantification during the entire chemical process.

In the petrochemical sector, analysis can involve different types of samples, such as:

  • crude oil
  • fuel oils
  • lubricants
  • hydraulic fluids
  • catalysts
  • intermediate chemical products
  • solid, liquid or powder samples

Rotrode Emission Spectrometer and oil analysis machines for lubricants based on RDE-OES technique are nowadays used in petrochemical applications to test oils, determine additives, detect contaminant elements at trace level and identify metals coming from wear and corrosion.

In this field, optical emission spectrometers are useful when fast and reliable data on the elemental composition of the sample is required, supporting both process control and laboratory activities.

GNR provides advanced solutions for fuels and oil analysis in order to satisfy customer needs and requirements, including ASTM standards.
